The HILA Project – Youths and Rural Women’s Labor, Community Prosperity

Kundu quarter is a strategic quarter in the village of Balinyonga, in the Mezam Division of the Northwest region. Its roads stretch over 2km from the Kundu quarter towards the main market square in Balinyonga. This road serves as access to business, access to residential areas and also boasts the economy of Balinyonga community in general and the people from this quarter in particular.  The dilapidated nature of these roads in recent times has    been a setback to businesses and made access to residential areas problematic. In collaboration with GRACARO, RWASJ  embarked on the rehabilitation of these roads through the HILA project of peace and development sponsored by the North West Regional Assembly. The rehabilitation was done by the local women and youths of Kunda quarter in Balinyonga village who were actively engaged in the rehabilitation of these roads. The roads were filled, drainages created, some maintained, bridges cleared and some equally maintained. RWASJ team in collaboration with GRACARO were engaged in supervision and actively participating in the rehabilitation process. This rehabilitation will go a long way to improve mobility within the Bali community thereby improving businesses. This initiative is not just constructing but paving the way for a boast in economic activities.
