Rural Women and Sustainability and Justice (RWASJ) organization recently conducted an awareness-raising activity to commemorate World Human Trafficking Day with students of the Pan African Institute of Sustainable Development under this year’s theme, “Human trafficking is an organized crime,”. They started with awareness creation followed by interactive discussions and rounded up with feedback and question and answers.

RWASJ educated students about human trafficking, its forms, and its devastating impact on individuals and communities. Students engaged in discussions on identifying signs of human trafficking, reporting suspicious activities, and supporting survivors.
The organization emphasized the need for collective action to combat human trafficking, involving governments, civil society, and individuals.

The students expressed that they were previously unfamiliar with the concept of human trafficking and its complexities. They appreciated the awareness-raising session and requested more sessions to deepen their understanding and explore ways to get involved in anti-trafficking efforts.

Worthy of note is the fact that, Human trafficking is a global issue affecting every country, with women, men, and children being exploited for various purposes involving children as young as 6 years old and 9 years old have been trafficked as sex workers, domestic servants, organ harvesting etc.

RWASJ plans to continue engaging with students and community stakeholders providing more training sessions and resources to empower them to become advocates against human trafficking.

By working together, we can help prevent human trafficking and protect its victims.

Let’s join hands to combat human trafficking and create a safer world for all.
